Pups on Parole Program

The Pups on Parole program is a partnership between the Jasper County Animal Rescue League and Humane Society and the work release program at the Correctional Release Center. Dogs that need training or have been up for adoption at the league for an extended period of time go to live at the Correctional Release Center with an inmate who is their trainer for eight weeks.

The dog is taught basic obedience commands such as:
  • sit
  • stay
  • down
  • loose leash walking
  • recall

They are also crate trained.

Dogs that go through this program must be spayed or neutered first, test negative for heartworm, receive all vaccinations including rabies, and get their microchip.

This program is very important because it gives homeless dogs an opportunity to get out of the shelter and receive training to become better adoption candidates. It also gives the inmates an opportunity to help an animal in need and participate in a program that is very fulfilling.
